Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has expanded its public charging offering by giving customers access to 75,000 charge points across the UK through a partnership with Digital Charging Solutions (DCS). The service also provides access to more than 1.1 million charging points across 29 European countries through a single charging platform.
The initiative is available to eligible electric vehicle (EV) and plug in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) customers, who can locate, activate, and pay for charging through the JLR charging service and receive a complimentary charging card.
Expanding Charging Access Without Building New Infrastructure
Rather than investing in a proprietary charging network, JLR has expanded customer access by integrating existing public charging infrastructure into its digital ecosystem.
A Single Platform for Public Charging
The charging service enables drivers to search for available charge points, initiate charging sessions, and manage payments through one platform. By consolidating access to multiple charging networks, JLR aims to simplify public charging and reduce reliance on separate provider apps and accounts.
What It Means for the EV Charging Market
The announcement reflects a growing strategy among vehicle manufacturers to strengthen the ownership experience through charging partnerships instead of infrastructure ownership.
Charging Access Is Becoming a Competitive Differentiator
As public charging networks mature, manufacturers are focusing on seamless network access alongside vehicle performance. Partnerships with charging service providers allow automakers to expand customer benefits without the capital investment required to develop and operate proprietary charging infrastructure.
Digital Integration Is Driving Customer Experience
Beyond charger availability, digital services such as route planning, charger discovery, payment integration, and charging session management are becoming central to the EV ownership experience. These capabilities help simplify public charging while improving convenience for drivers.
Executive Takeaway
JLR’s partnership with Digital Charging Solutions highlights how automakers are extending their role beyond vehicle manufacturing. Rather than competing as charge point operators, manufacturers are integrating established public charging networks into their customer platforms to improve accessibility, strengthen customer retention, and support broader EV adoption.
This approach reflects a wider shift in the automotive sector, where digital charging services are becoming as important to the ownership experience as the vehicles themselves.
